Internship Roles


​Cafe Companion Intern

Roles and Responsibilities
  • Fulfill Role as a Café Companion which includes:
    • Providing direct support to members by providing up to date information on community resources and referrals
    • Offering hospitality around Café tables with an open heart and a listening ear.
    • Welcome and engage members in café activities (games, classes, etc)
  • Provide general support within the Café
    • Assisting with Meal services
    • Checking in members
    • Cleaning and safety protocols
  • Research and compile community resources based on needs identified by members
  • Develop or support members and staff to develop classes through the School for Recovery
  • Host new member orientation
  • Participate in and assist in hosting monthly Sober Social Events
  • Participate in any necessary professional development trainings

​Event Planning & Donor Development Intern

Roles and Responsibilities
  • Create event planning document for the annual fall fundraising/friendraising event for We Bloom
  • Coordinate all aspects of planning the event including:
    • Researching and securing a free/low-cost venue
    • Coordination of food/drink free/low-cost vendors
    • Create invitations and send via email and social media
    • Determine photography and videography needs
    • Develop day-of event itinerary (with committee) and be on-site to support managing event
  • Develop plan for silent auction
    • Create pricing list
    • Organize mechanism for promoting and selling items at the event
  • Cultivate and enhance community sponsors
    • Conduct informal meetings to share information locally
    • Identify potential in-kind donations for events from local employers and individuals

​Fundraising & Research Intern

Roles and Responsibilities
  • Research foundation and government grants targeting addiction (and co-occurring mental illness/homelessness) prevention
  • Recommend best fit grant opportunities given the Recovery Café Lafayette vision, mission, and location
  • Provide support in preparing and drafting grant applications
  • Identify key strategies for raising awareness about the Recovery Café Lafayette causes
  • Assist in executing marketing strategies including:
    • Social media posts (Facebook, Twitter)
    • Creative website and blog content

​Marketing & Social Media Intern

​Roles and Responsibilities
  • Create a Social Media strategy for We Bloom
    • Facebook and website as initial platforms of focus
    • Explore the use of Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn and blogging as part of social media strategy
  • Draft monthly/quarterly newsletters for We Bloom friends and supporters
  • Cultivate and enhance community relationships to increase awareness of We Bloom and associated causes
    • Conduct informal meetings to share information locally
    • Research and recommend potential venues for friend-raising events and activates
    • Identify potential in-kind donations for events
  • Develop PPT presentation on project experience and outcomes to provide for network of friends, family and colleagues (include photos, videos, etc)​

Internship Hours

​
  • Hours: the initial commitment for the internship is 8-10 hours a week for 3-4 months – flexibility can be granted depending on the needs and interests of the individual intern as aligned to the needs of We Bloom.
  • Schedule: interns will be required to meet for 1-hour of supervision each week either in person or by video. Interns are required to serve in the physical café space at a minimum of 4 hours weekly. Other work hours will be independent and up to the intern. Meetings with outside vendors, supporters, etc will also be scheduled regularly throughout the internship.
